Dr. Baer grew up in Berkeley, California. Since 2007, she has resided in Kensington, California. She lives with her husband and two children, ages 9 and 11. As a physician and a parent, she has become more aware of the importance of environmental (outer influences) and genetic predisposition/personality (inner influences) in health. Good health is related to how each person interacts with these outer and inner influences, both on a physical level and on a soul level. How we relate with the environment and the people in our lives plays a role in our well-being.
Dr. Baer has studied a wide variety of complementary healing approaches including integrative medicine, acupressure, anthroposophical medicine, and nutrition. Anthroposophical medicine, the principles around which she has built her practice, is a human centered approach to medicine. To quote Sir William Osler: “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.” An anthroposophical physician strives to understand the patient in relation to the patient’s illness. This approach stands on the foundation of Western medicine to understand the physical aspects of the illness, but takes a step further and investigates what issues may be affecting the patient’s soul/spiritual life.
